The Future of Cloud Computing in Cambodia
Today, the internet is available from many ISPs at at many levels of price and performance. Companies such as Cambo Technology, Ezecom and Online can provide dedicated fiber optic links to their infrastructure. IP telephony technology has been legalised, and some ISPs also became VoIP and IPTV Service providers and some Telcos became ISPs. Now, a few companies offer digital Cambodian phone numbers via SIP trunks, but still at high prices. DID’s, though, are not available yet from Telecom Cambodia or TRC, still slowing down the deployment of pure IP telephony in business environments. Toll free numbers are now available to enhance customer service.
Cambodia Infrastructure Outlook
Cambodian network infrastructure is improving; monthly rental prices for internet lines are falling, while internet speed keeps increasing. Today, with the roll-out of fiber optic network infrastructure, the market is slowly drifting towards IP based telephony and cloud computing: it is considerably cheaper to maintain, because internet and telephony use one single network.
In high density areas like Phnom Penh, industrial parks and special economic zones like Phnom Penh SEZ, Cambodian ISPs are starting to roll out modern fiber optic networks. The low cost of laying fiber optic cables compared to analogue lines has opened up the possibility of dedicated fiber to the small and medium sized business market and to allow those business to maintain several ISP providers in the case of their main provider being unavailable due to environmental conditions,
